Udyog Utsav - Chennai

The ninth edition of Udyog Utsav took place at D.G Vaishnav college, Arumbakkam, Chennai on 7th October 2023.

The event was graced by corporates like Caterpillar India, Danfoss, Dow Chemical, Project Management Institute India, Renault Nissan Technology and Business Center India, several departments of DG Vaishnav college including their life sciences and animation departments, stepped up to deliver some crucial decision making points about career choices and how to progress in a chosen stream of education. Puthris received tokens of appreciation and encouragement through the thoughtful distribution of goodie bags.


The event started off with the ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and empowerment. Mr. G Gobidoss, chief guest for the event, along with Mr. Umasanker Kandaswamy, Capt Dr S Santhosh Baboo , Ms. Kalaiselvam and Mr. Eswar Balasubramanian lighted the lamp.

The inaugural speech set the tone for the event, highlighting the significance of empowering young minds. Addressing her Puthris,
Dr. Saundarya Rajesh said, "Dear Puthris, share your inspirations and dreams with your mentors, and teachers. They will lead you to the right path in the right direction”

“Back then, taking a decision about a career was not easy. I joined a competitive exam centre for this purpose. Today you have lot more avenues.
Chief guest S. Gobidoss, Joint Director, Department of Education, addressing Udyog Utsav in Chennai. He shared his personal insights and inspiration, contributing to the motivational atmosphere of Udyog Utsav.

The cultural extravaganza showcased diverse talents of Puthris, adding vibrancy to the event. Puthris from Maduvinkarai Government school performed to groovy songs. Adding colour and vibrancy to the occasion the team “Positive Decibels” from DG Vaishnav performed beautiful songs for our Puthris.

Kamalashri, our Puthri who was recently absorbed into the global workforce by Dow chemical addressed the audience, sharing words of wisdom and encouragement. She shared her journey as a Puthri and how she emerged from the circumstances to take up engineering and land the job at the organization.

During the Inaugural Speech, Capt Dr S Santhosh Baboo Prinicpal, stressed on learning languages as many as and he quoted “Be it arts or science, learn more languages. You have plenty of opportunities in a city like Chennai that is embracing the tide of change, All that you have to do is study hard, be present, exercise, and play for good health and set the goals for a fruitful future."

Recognizing and rewarding talent, the event featured a talent search and scholarship distribution segment. The winners of Talk to win , the speech contest and Heart to art the drawing competition conducted for Puthris were awarded the cash prize on the stage by the dignitaries.

Ms. Kalaiselvam, AEO, Education Department, delivered a powerful speech, emphasizing the importance of breaking societal expectations. She said,"Girls must not limit their life and ambitions to the wishes of the family. They must fly high and be a part of building society. There will be difficulties in your path, but those difficulties will chisel a bright future.”

Arun Singh, Department Leader, Reliability and Maintenance Support, Dow Chemical, motivated the audience to overcome distractions and pursue their goals with dedication and hard work. He said, “ It is easy to be distracted during this age that you are all in. There are cinema and plenty of other distractions but study hard and work harder. We will be supporting you in all your endeavours.”

Ms. Shobana Ganesan former MD, Barclays shared words of wisdom, emphasizing the importance of communication, confidence, and continuous learning for women to succeed in their careers.

Mr. Senthilnathan Palanivelu, General Manager at RNTBCI, highlighted the changing dynamics in the automobile industry, encouraging women to be persistant and always have a plan B.

Puthris participated in an empowering Krav Maga self-defense session, led by Mr. Mithun.

The event concluded with a knowledge-sharing session, promoting continuous learning and personal development. Several Corporates including Caterpillar, Danfoss, Dow Chemical, Department of mass media and communication, life sciences, etc. graced this session with their presence.
